Alhambra is known for its Chinese food, so even though I’ve noticed Oo-Kook several times during Costco runs, I wasn’t inclined to try it out until recently.
The boy tried the summer special, beef short rib soup. The meat was so tender. I was kind of jealous and wished I had ordered the same dish, but he was nice and shared.
I definitely want to come back and try their soondubu jjigae!
Oo-kook Tofu & BBQ
2201 W Commonwealth Ave
Pros: Friendly service, great food, pleasant atmosphere. Very clean compared to most K-town restaurants. And they have k-pop music videos playing on their TVs!
Cons: It’s called Oo-kook Tofu&BBQ, but it’s really just a tofu restaurant. Don’t expect kbbq with grills because they’re not equipped for that. They serve grilled meats that are prepared in the kitchen. Kind of a plus though if you want a nice Korean meal without smelling like smoke and meat. Menu prices are on the higher end, probably because they don’t have much competition on the Eastside, but the tradeoff is better service – no angry, overworked waiters.
