Cruel City – Episode 19

Hm, feeling ambivalent about this episode. There were some amazing moments, and some not so great moments.

We begin with Soo Min and Doc’s Son facing off on the rooftop, while a sniper has them in his sights.  Luckily, Shi Hyun takes the bullet for her and runs off to confront the attacker.  I was very impressed by all his action sequences, especially considering Jung Kyung Ho’s painful injury.

I was not as impressed by Nam Gyu Ri’s acting in this episode.  Maybe it’s the writers’ fault, but she seems to be asking unnecessary questions at inopportune times instead of just using her brain to figure out what’s going on.

We do have a touching scene where she treats Shi Hyun’s bullet wound.

Jin Sook walks in on them while they’re asleep in each other’s arms. While they looked adorable together, I found it weird that he was sleeping on his back – wouldn’t that just aggravate his wound?

I was very happy that Jin Sook didn’t take on the characteristics of the usual bitchy ex-girlfriend character. [For examples, see Lie to Me or Mary Stayed Out All Night.] In kdramas, the ex usually clings to her former lover despite all signs pointing to the fact that their relationship can’t work. The ex doesn’t take the hint and continues to meddle in the OTP’s affairs and is basically a malevolent, extremely annoying obstacle to true love.

Understandably, Jin Sook is devastated when she finds out about Soo Min and Doc’s Son. But, she takes the high road though, and so does Soo Min. They meet to talk it out, thus avoiding any miscommunication.  Love it when sisterhood prevails! And omg, Kim Yoo Mi is an amazing actor. I really hope she gets picked up for another hit series.

Jin Sook: Can I borrow your clothes?

Soo Min: Well … it’s just, your clothes are better.

Jin Sook: Yes, my clothes are prettier.

One more episode to go. I’m not thrilled at Min Hong Ki being the main adversary. True, he was shifty from the get-go, so I wasn’t surprised that he turned on Safari and Doc’s Son. However, his weird baby face doesn’t scream “bad guy”.  We shall see if he makes good on his menacing threats.

*a note* I’m going traveling for the next few days so I probably won’t be able to see the finale until next week. Kind of glad though because I’m going to miss Cruel City and want to prolong it as long as possible. =(
