Holy Shit Cruel City, thank you for meeting my expectations again. I was a little worried at the beginning of the first scene, because it seemed like the only contact Soo Min and Shi Hyun would get was another painful phone call, but they definitely made this conversation count.
I’m not entirely sold on the idea of Shi Hyun calling her while he’s standing outside her bedroom, but it is heartbreaking to see him force himself to walk away after hearing her screams of pain.
I never really liked Safari’s character. He’s too nonchalant about life. I prefer Doc’s Son intensity. We still have no idea what Safari’s intentions are yet, but it was nice to see him have a touching moment with Jin Sook. On a wardrobe note, this is a pretty frock, but it’s quite similar to the other 2 yellow dresses Soo Min wore in previous episodes. I’m surprised the leading ladies aren’t wearing more red, that would be more fitting with the film noir theme.
Soo Min 😦 Your shoddy undercover work continues to dismay me. How could you reveal everything to Joo Young, whom you specifically saw hanging outside of Doc’s Son’s lair – so you KNOW she’s involved and will most likely report you. *smacks head in disbelief*
I guess her strengths lie in nurturing relationships. After all, she was able to gain both Doc’s Son and Jin Sook’s hearts. She’s also mature enough to guide Hyeong Min towards a healthy relationship, to help him heal over his fiance’s death. I’m not a huge fan of Hyeong Min’s reporter friend, but Soo Min made the right choice by accepting her with genuine warmth.
Kudos to Soo Min for walking out of the police station with her brother-in-law’s gun.
I’m getting the sense that Hyeong Min’s dad might be the master manipulator behind everything. We still don’t know who killed Kyung Mi … could he be the culprit? He seems to view everyone below him as a pawn in his larger game of political gain.
The last scene really renewed my faith in the potential for this series to be this summer’s hit. Soo Min finally does something commendable. Not only does she save Doc’s Son, but she knocks out Director Jo with a very satisfying blow. Unfortunately, a sniper has her in his sights …
